Volunteer with Canopy

Join Canopy's volunteer team and make a visible difference in your neighborhood. You will be joining a fun and diverse group of people in helping Canopy plant and care for street trees in Palo Alto. Volunteers are key to maintaining Palo Alto's urban forest and neighborhood character. We welcome all with an interest in community and trees, whether or not you have a green thumb or previous experience. Check the calendar for upcoming events or contact Canopy for more information.

Survey Volunteer Make a difference in the life of a tree by joining Canopy’s Survey Team. Canopy needs volunteers to survey the health of young trees and help encourage residents to care for their trees. Working in teams, volunteers will survey young trees throughout Palo Alto during the summer months and leave information for residents. Volunteers can survey their area and get to know their neighbors. Read the job description (pdf)

Project Leader Teach others to plant and take care of trees, then lead small teams of volunteers during Canopy workdays. Training will be provided at a hands-on project leader workshop. After completing the training, Project Leaders will be asked to assist Canopy with at least 3 workdays in the upcoming year. Read the job description (pdf)

Tree Planter Plant new street trees in your neighborhood or other parts of the city. No experience needed. Canopy will provide training and tools at each planting site. Plantings are held several Saturday mornings throughout the fall and winter, and proceed rain or shine. Sign up for the plantings that best suit your schedule. See the calendar for upcoming dates.
