City of Palo Alto
More than 100 years old, Palo Alto is named for a majestic 1,000 year old coastal redwood tree along San Francisquito Creek, where early Spanish explorers settled. Today, Canopy works together with arborists in the City's planning and public works departments to protect Palo Alto’s urban forest. Palo Alto has been a member of Tree City, USA for 17 years.

SelecTree 
SelecTree is an interactive program designed to match specific tree species to particular sites based on compatible characteristics. SelecTree presently searches a database of 1,485 trees and provides 46 selection criteria to choose from.
   

SafeTree
The SafeTree Program is a public education and awareness program funded by the shareholders of Pacific Gas and Electric Company and is being developed and carried out under a mandate from the California Public Utilities Commission. Pacific Gas and Electric Company is dedicating five million dollars to this effort over five years (approximately 2000-2004). This project is intended to create greater public awareness about the safety issues concerning proper tree selection and vegetation placement near electric power lines.
