Palo Alto Celebrates 2012 Arbor Day with Canopy at Mitchell Park Festival.

Canopy celebrated the 100th anniversary of International Arbor Day as well as the 100th birthday of the Girls Scouts of America on March 10th in a fun-filled community festival, in Palo Alto's Sycamore-lined Mitchell Bowl Park.

Several hundred people joined the family festival, participating in activities such as: The "Tree Climbing Circus" with performer Tim Womick; real tree climbing lessons with Tree Climbing World Champion Chad Brey; a concert with The Banana Slug String band; a sneak peak tour of the new library's tree design plan with City Arborist Dave Dockter; a tour of Mitchell Park's trees with Arborist Kevin Raftery; and tree art with the Art Center's Art Truck.

Festival attendees met the "real" Stanford tree, enjoyed face painting with Youth Community Service, learned tree science with the Canopy Youth Staff, visited the Ask the Arborist Booth hosted by the Western Chapter of the ISA, and enjoyed food from Butterscotch-On-The-Go and Oaxacan Kitchen Mobile food trucks.
