El Palo Alto Spa Day & Celebration

El Palo Alto Park- 117 El Palo Alto Avenue (Map)

Enjoy a day of tree climbing, local history, and fun at El Palo Alto Park!
El Palo Alto, our City's eponymous, landmark tree, will be inspected and cared for with a "spa" day, as well as celebrated with activities for kids and adults.

Biking, walking, public transportation, and carpooling are all recommended for this event. Drivers should park in the adjacent neighborhood on the Menlo Park side of El Palo Alto Park and use the pedestrian bridge. Signage will be posted.

El Palo Alto Spa Day Activities

To kick-off  Arbor Week, Palo Alto City arborists are giving El Palo Alto a “spa” day to check the tree's health and test and analyze the soil, roots, and trunk base.

  • Listen to City arborist Dave Dockter tell El Palo Alto’s fascinating story.

  • Meet City of Palo Alto's new Urban Forester, Walter Passmore.

  • Watch as arborists perform health checks and analysis.

  • See demonstrations of root mapping and wood penetrating radar equipment to learn how arborists check the health of a tree.

  • Peek into El Palo Alto’s canopy as arborists climb into the canopy with helmet-mounted video cameras.

  • Take part in a watering ceremony.  Bring your watering can.

El Palo Alto Celebration & Stewardship

  • Make leaf art.

  • Calculate a tree's age, Learn about tree biology.

  • Mulch and weed trees and plants in El Palo Alto Park with Acterra and Canopy.
