2014 Young Tree Care Survey Coordinator - recruiting now!

Survey Coordinator Volunteer Job Description

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the primary responsibility of the Young Tree Care Survey (YTCS) Coordinator is to prepare, organize, and implement Canopy’s annual Young Tree Care Survey, which indexes street trees planted in Palo Alto in the last five years. The survey is conducted on behalf of the City of Palo Alto to inform their urban forestry and tree care work throughout the year.

Survey Volunteer

Survey Volunteer Job Description 

Make a difference in the life of a tree by joining Canopy’s Survey Team. Canopy needs volunteers to survey the health of young trees and help encourage residents to care for their trees. Working in teams, volunteers survey young trees throughout Palo Alto during the summer months and leave information for residents. Volunteers can survey their area and get to know their neighbors.

Tree Planter

Tree Planter Job Description 

Plant school, park, and street trees in your neighborhood or other parts of your community. No experience needed. Canopy will provide training and tools at each planting site. Plantings are held several Saturday mornings throughout the fall and winter and proceed rain or shine. Sign up for the plantings that best suit your schedule. Stewardship Volunteer

Planting trees is just the first step. Help Canopy care for recently planted trees. No experience needed. Canopy will provide training and tools at each planting site. Stewardship work days are held several Saturday mornings throughout the year and proceed rain or shine. Sign up for the day that best suit your schedule. Planting Leader

Planting Leader Job Description 

Teach others to plant trees and lead small teams of volunteers during Canopy plantings. Training will be provided at a hands-on project leader workshop held in the fall. After completing the training, Planting Leaders will be asked to assist Canopy with at least three workdays in the upcoming planting season.

Tree Care Leader

Tree Care Leader Job Description 

Learn pruning techniques and help teach others to take care of trees, then lead small teams of volunteers during Canopy stewardship and pruning work days. Training will be provided at a hands-on project leader workshop held in the spring. After completing the training, Tree Care Leaders will be asked to assist Canopy with at least three workdays in the upcoming tree care season.

Event Volunteer

Event Volunteer Job Description 

Join us for a party! Canopy needs volunteers to help at various events and gatherings. Check the calendar for upcoming events or contact Canopy for more information.

Office Assistant

Office Assistant Job Description 

Office Support tasks may include data entry, website updates, filing, photocopying, running errands, etc. Office Support Volunteers work closely with staff members in the office or from home if the task permits.

Tree Walks or Tabling Representative

Help us out by learning more about Canopy and representing us at local community tabling events or assisting an ISA-trained arborist on a monthly Tree Walk.

Workshop Assistant

Help out at a Canopy workshop or seminar.  Job opportunities can involve everything from preparing content, assembling materials, or lending some of your expertise in a particular area.  Workshops are wonderful opportunities to deepen your knowledge, and our assistants always learn a lot in the process.
