Programs

Tree planting, tree care, hands-on learning, and environmental education are at the core of Canopy's programs.

Tree Planting: Improving our local environment by maintaining and expanding our urban forest. We plant trees with volunteers along city streets and at parks, schools and community spaces.

Tree Care: Monitoring and caring for our community trees. We provide training opportunities for youth and improve the establishment, structure and health of young and mature trees.

Education and Outreach: Engaging the community in hands-on and classroom learning about practical tree care and the environmental, social and economic benefits of trees. Education is a part of everything we do from our school education program to plantings, Tree Walks and special events.

Advocacy: Working with public and private agencies to preserve and protect the future our forest. Canopy speaks for the trees and provides consultation to cities, school districts, and organizations.

Community Services: Strengthening city programs, educating the community, and mentoring other urban forestry organizations and initiatives. We provide tree advice to help residents select the right tree, care for it properly and preserve mature tree canopy.

"The scope of what Canopy does is stupendous, everything from inventorying native oaks to conducting neighborhood tree walks, but there's never any loss of focus on its mission of protecting Palo Alto's trees."
